Changing the normal order or arrangement. Transposition is a basic strategy in the manipulation of discourse for rhetorical purposes, along with addition, subtraction, and substitution, and occurs on many levels:

Transposition of letters in a word metathesis
Transposition of grammatical order of words in a sentence hyperbaton (see below)
Transposition of time order in events related hysteron proteron
