Henry Peacham (1546-1634) is well known in Renaissance studies for The
Garden of Eloquence. First published in 1577, this stylistic rhetoric
was innovative for being in the vernacular (as later would beGeorge Puttenham's
The Arte of English Poesie). It reflects the influences of Johannes
Susenbrotus (Epitome troporum ac schematum, 1540) and Richard Sherry
(Treatise of Schemes and Tropes, 1550).
